Credential Conferred: Diplomas -- The Bachelor of Science degree and a certificate of completion are awarded by the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Professional Certification: Graduates are eligible to apply for the certification examinations of the National Certification Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel (CLS) and the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (MT).
Length of Study: Four academic years comprised of a Preprofessional Phase of six quarters (or four semesters) taken at UAB or elsewhere and a Professional Phase seven quarters taken in SHRP.
Professional Phase Information
Program Entrance Date: Fall term.
Application Deadline: Completed applications received by March 15 preceding the expected date of enrollment are given first priority. Second priority deadline for applications is May 15. Applications received after May 15 are considered on a space-available basis.
An Early Admission Program is
available to students who qualify.

Requirements for Admission: The student usually will have completed approximately 60 semester hours before transferring to SHRP. Acceptance is based upon the student's academic ability and aptitude for a career in laboratory sciences. The candidate is expected to satisfy the following requirements.
For students who have graduated from a NAACLS accredited
Medical Laboratory Sciences Program and are certified as
laboratory technicians, an articulation
program recognizing technical courses is available.
Essential Requirements:
Fundamental tasks that must be performed to successfully complete
the program have been outlined and are available upon request
from the program.
Program Prerequisites:
Courses must meet the Alabama General Core requirements to be
acceptable toward a baccalaureate degree.
