RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, AL September, 1998 - Present
Postdoctoral Research Fellow,
Department of Psychology and Civitan International Research Center

One year postdoctoral research fellowship working with Norman Bray, Ph.D. on two grants from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development investigating the development of memory skills in children with and without mental retardation and developing neural network models of strategy adoption for children with and without mental retardation. Responsible for writing drafts of new articles for publication of our research on memory strategies in children with and without mental retardation and for revisions in articles which have been submitted but not yet accepted for publication. Also, involved in conceptualization and design of new research projects. Aid in the contacting of school personnel for subject recruitment. Develop procedures for data collection and data entry. In charge of data analysis for lab. Coordinate daily research activities in the lab and supervise undergraduate research assistants.

University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, AL September, 1992 - 1998
Graduate Research Assistant,
Department of Psychology and Civitan International Research Center

Worked with Norman Bray, Ph.D. as a graduate assistant on grants from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development that investigated the development of memory skills in children with and without mental retardation. Involved in conceptualization and design of new research projects. Developed procedures and stimuli. Coordinated daily research activities in the lab and supervised undergraduate research assistants and honor students. Involved in data analysis, writing of research articles and grant renewals.

Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN January 1991- May 1992
Research Assistant, Department of Psychological Sciences

Worked with Donald R. Ottinger, Ph.D. as a research assistant on a project designed to assess the relationship between young children's performance on a vigilance task and their classroom behavior. Responsibilities included coding behavior in vivo, coding videotapes, administering vigilance task, and data analysis.

Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN December 1990 - May 1992
Research Assistant, Department of Psychological Sciences
Worked with Barbara Younger, Ph.D. as a research assistant on projects involving infant categorization. Responsible for the use of an observational behavior code, administering various correlated attributes tasks to infants and toddlers, and data analysis.

Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN September 1990- May 1992
Research Assistant, Department of Psychological Sciences
Collaborated with Robert D. Melara, Ph.D. as a research assistant in his perception laboratory. Involved in every phase of research design and implementation, including subject recruitment, stimulus construction, data collection, data entry, and data analysis. Presented research findings and theoretical issues to both faculty and students.
