How to Access the UAB
Learning Management System (LMS)
(Formerly Known as Health Stream)
To Complete the Required UAB/UABHS
HIPAA Privacy and Security Training

Before any training module or requirement can be accessed via the LMS, the student must be entered into Banner. Once that is completed, a new student must create a BlazerID and password. If the student already has a BlazerID and password, but is newly associated with a HIPAA covered entity, time will be required for the HIPAA training to appear in his/her assignment list. The process from entering into Banner to creating BlazerID and password to having the required UAB/UABHS HIPAA Privacy and Security Training appear in "Assigned Learning" within the LMS could be up to 48 hours.

Once the above issues are fulfilled, follow these steps to access the required HIPAA training:
  1. Go to the link: www.uab.edu/learningsystem (Internet Explorer is the preferred browser)
  2. Select "Access Learning System"Log in using your BlazerID and password
  3. Click to place the radial button under "Student/Manager"
  4. Select "Proceed with Login""UAB/UABHS HIPAA Privacy and Security Training" will appear under "Assigned Learning"
  5. Select "UAB/UABHS HIPAA Privacy and Security Online Training" (please make sure to choose/enroll in the ONLINE version, NOT the classroom version)
  6. Click "Enroll"
  7. Select "Online Presentation"
  8. Select "Click here to view slide presentation"
  9. Presentation slides will display
  10. View all training material
  11. When completed, exit by selecting either the "X" at the top of the screen or "Exit" at the bottom
  12. Select "Post Test" and read the instructions
  13. Complete the quiz as presented being careful to answer each of the 16 questions
  14. Return to course details
  15. An option to print a certificate is displayed in the green banner (this certificate is available to be printed at any time by accessing "My Transcript," selecting the HIPAA course, and a green banner for printing a certificate displays)
  16. An evaluation of the course is available yet optional
  17. Successful completion (a score of 75% or better) will automatically be recorded by the LMS; if unsuccessful, repeat these steps
