Accessing HIPAA Training in BbLearn


The UAB/UABHS HIPAA Privacy and Security Course is assigned to you based on your student enrollment within one of the UAB/UABHS HIPAA-covered entities.  These instructions are to assist you in completing the HIPAA course in Blackboard Learn.


A.
     To complete the course and quiz:

  1. Create your UAB BlazerID and password. You may have to wait up to 24 hours for required IT processing before attempting to access the HIPAA training.  After a 24-hour wait, continue with the steps below.
  2. Go to www.uab.edu/bblearn to accessHIPAA training in Blackboard Learn.
      1. Select “Log in to BB Learn” at the top of the right column.
      2. Log in using your BlazerID and password.
      3. Under “My Courses,” click on “HIPAA Privacy and Security Training-[School Abbreviation].”
      4. Again, select “HIPAA Privacy and Security Training.
      5. Continue through the course and quiz.

    B.     To print a confirmation of course completion:

    Once the required HIPAA training is successfully completed (a score of 75% or better on the quiz), select one of the following set of steps to print a confirmation of course completion in the event you are required to produce it.

    If using Internet Explorer as the web browser, follow these steps:

    1. When logged in to Blackboard Learn, select “My Grades” from the left column.
    2. Select “HIPAA Quiz."
    3. Click on your grade.
    4. Click on your grade again.
    5. You will reach the “Review Test Submission” page. Select “File” from the top left of the screen.
    6. Select “Print Preview.”
    7. Across the top, in the second drop-down menu, select “As laid out on screen” to ensure the UAB banner is included on the printed page.
    8. Select “Print.”

    If using Firefox as the web browser, then follow these steps:

    1. When logged in to Blackboard Learn, select “My Grades” from the left column.
    2. Select “HIPAA Quiz.”
    3. Click on your grade.
    4. Click on your grade again.
    5. You will reach the “Review Test Submission” page. Select “File” from the top left of the screen.
    6. Select “Print Preview” to ensure that the page with a UAB header displays.
    7. Select “Print.”


    C.     To print a certificate of course completion using EdTrak:

    EdTrak is UAB's system to access training history and print certificates.  The training records for courses completed in Blackboard Learn, including the required UAB/UABHS HIPAA Privacy and Security Training, will be moved to EdTrak 24-48 hours after successful completion.  You will be able to permanently access and print your Certificate of Completion for the UAB/UABHS HIPAA Privacy and Security Training using EdTrak.  The direct link to EdTrak is https://dcsapps.ad.uab.edu/edtrak/Default.aspx.


    D.
         To request a reset of HIPAA training:

    If you do not successfully complete the HIPAA Training with a score of 75% or better, send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.   with “Reset Training” in the subject line and your BlazerID in the body of the email.  The training will be reset for your second attempt.  Follow the same directions above for the re-take.
