Karen, who is a native Floridian, but a long time Birmingham resident, completed her undergraduate work at Auburn in Family and Child Services in 1976. She later received both an Elementary Education Bachelor’s degree and a Masters in Early Childhood Education from UAB. She earned her National Board Certification in 2003. She has been a classroom teacher for 22 years, teaching in the Birmingham City and Jefferson County districts. Hands-on, minds-on instruction has been her classroom focus, having been a long time ALAHASP trainer and a trainer of trainers for AMSTI since its inception.
