DCS and StoryCorps! Print E-mail

StoryCorps, the largest oral history project aimed at preserving the stories of everyday people, is an inspiration to Digital Community Studies. The StoryCorps interview, where a loved one interviews another loved one, is a common introductory assignment for several DCS courses. Students develop their interviewing and film making skills by interviewing a family member or close friend. Check out some memorable interview moments:

  • Brittney Jones interviews her mother, Yolanda Jones. Brittney discovers something she never knew about her mom.
  • Chris Humphries interviews his friend, Doria Thomas, about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
  • Anna Lloyd interviews Mordecai "Mawk" Arnold who sings the song that inspired him to join to Marines.
  • Brendan Rice interviews his grandmother, Elizabeth Rice, about her adventures in Taiwan while raising two children.
  • Trae Crain interviews his grandmother, Mary Evelyn Smithson about growing up in Birmingham, Alabama.
