As a member of HOSA in high school, I had the opportunity to do my clinical rotations in a dental office; that is where I gained my love and interest for dentistry. While in college I looked into many programs; I chose the UAB Dental Assisting Program due to their knowledge of the course work, substantial clinical rotations, and the reputation that UAB School of Dentistry has in the dental community.
The UAB DAP taught me that being a dental assistant is the most critical link between the patient and the dentist before, during, and after treatment. As a dental assistant, you want to anticipate the needs of the dentist in any procedure. A dental assistant helps increase the speed and efficiency of patient treatment without compromising the quality of care. You want to always be a team player and be willing to interact with and make your patient feel welcome and comfortable. Also, always be willing to learn new skills.
Following graduation, I was offered a full time job at Woodstock Dental Care as a general and endodontic dental assistant. I will continue my dental education as a dental hygienist in July of 2016 at UAB ADHP. Being able to help others and assist in giving them a beautiful and healthy smile makes me love my job even more. The memories I made going through this program will hold dear to my heart for the rest of my life. My teachers, my classmates, the dental students, the laughs and the stress; it was all worth it and I could not have asked for a better experience.

I was at work today and could not stop thinking about what I was doing this time last year and how far I have come in the dental field. I absolutely love my job. Everyone in my dental office is really surprised by how much I know, what I can do and my willingness to learn.
I just wanted to say thank you for everything that I learned while in the UAB Dental Assisting Program. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for my classroom lectures, pre-clinical practice and clinical experiences. I'm very happy that I chose dental assisting as a profession. I am thankful that I chose to attend the UAB Dental Assisting Program. That long year of school was totally worth it.
