Santina (Tina) Goodwin
Dental Assistant I, Comprehensive Care Clinic

UAB School of Dentistry
2012 Graduate

As a child, I was always in love with my dental office. Because they were so pleasant and caring, they made me interested in becoming a dental assistant. Being a dental assistant means that my work environment is always professional, pleasant and clean. I am always meeting new people and I love that my daily routine is always changing. I enjoy learning new skills along the way.

There are so many opportunities for advancement. I might one day become a dental assisting instructor, a dental sales representative, a hygienist, or even a dentist. I know that I have a positive impact on a patient’s oral health and on their smile. Knowing that makes me feel great at the end of the day!

Carol Williams
Patient Services Coordinator II, Orthodontic Clinic

UAB School of Dentistry
2012 Graduate

After being downsized from a job, I wanted a stable career to help support my family. I decided to look into dental assisting. After researching the different programs, I found that UAB had the best program due to their strength of courses and their extensive clinical rotations. I also found that their reputation in the dental community is of great help when looking for a job.

Upon graduation, I was offered a position with the Orthodontic Department at the UAB School of Dentistry. A year later, I am now the Patient Services Coordinator II for the Orthodontic department. My role is both working with the financial side of patient treatment and coordinating treatment between the dental faculty, the dental residents and the patients. I can truly say that I love my job and that I have the satisfaction of knowing that I am helping our patients.
