A Passion for Compassion
Center for Palliative Care Fund-Raiser
“Louis and Wadia Josof are true champions of palliative care,” says Christine Ritchie, M.D., M.S.P.H., director of the UAB Center for Palliative Care. “They understand the importance of palliative-care provision from the time of the diagnosis of an illness to its final stages. Their advocacy, generous donation of their time and resources, and passion for palliative care inspires and encourages all of us who work in this field.” The Josofs, who have had personal experience with surviving cancer, were the honorees at the UAB Center for Palliative Care’s seventh annual buffet and auction.
More than 300 guests enjoyed delicious food, live music, and a live auction at “Passion for Compassion” on January 30 at the McWane Science Center. “As our largest annual event, the auction provides significant financial support to the Center for Palliative Care,” Ritchie says. “We are fully committed to providing care that truly meets the needs of our patients and their families, and this event allows us to do just that.”
The proceeds directly support patients and families through counseling and bereavement support, nutritional services, and art and complementary therapy. These funds also are used to educate and train health-care providers and to support outreach and educational programming in the community.
