Nearly 5,800 people gathered at Bartow Arena on a late February night to watch the UAB Blazer women play Marshall University’s Thundering Herd to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. “The UAB women’s basketball program is proud and honored to support the Pink Zone breast cancer awareness initiative,” says Audra Smith, UAB women’s head basketball coach. “Breast cancer is an illness that affects so many people today. It is our hope that we can make a positive impact to raise awareness of breast cancer in the UAB and Birmingham communities.”

“We are proud of our partnership with UAB Athletics,” says Ed Partridge, M.D., director of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. “They are true partners in the fight against cancer. The community support for this game was outstanding, and we look forward to future collaborations.” Comprehensive Cancer Center Advisory Board members who attended the event were Betsy Dreher, Billy Harvill, Kate Kiefer, and Callen Sparrow.
