The Brasfield & Gorrie Lobby of the Women & Infants Center at UAB acknowledges the company’s generous pledge of $250,000 and honors its exceptional commitment to quality care in state-of-the-art facilities for Alabama’s women and babies. The company has a longstanding history of commitment to improving health and education and providing financial assistance to organizations that positively influence the Birmingham community and the state of Alabama, including past and ongoing outstanding philanthropic support of UAB.
“Brasfield & Gorrie and the Gorrie family have been longtime supporters of UAB and continue to support programs across the campus with their time, energy, and resources,” says Shirley Salloway Kahn, Ph.D., vice president for development, alumni, and external relations. “This latest gift to the Women & Infants Center will help serve the needs of families from across the state and will serve as a source of pride for Brasfield & Gorrie, the Gorrie family, and UAB. This is a business and family that is committed to giving back to their community, and we are so appreciative of their support of UAB.”
Brasfield & Gorrie’s generous contributions to UAB include support of the Construction Engineering Management Program in the School of Engineering and investment in the training of future generations of engineers for Alabama’s workforce. Other units on campus that have benefited from the company’s support include the School of Medicine, School of Health Professions, School of Business, Comprehensive Cancer Center, UAB Athletics (particularly the UAB football program), Comprehensive Diabetes Center, and Liver Center, among others. Brasfield & Gorrie continues to be a most ardent supporter of UAB’s Alys Robinson Stephens Performing Arts Center (ASC) and has given generously since the inception of the ASC in support of its arts and educational programming.
Also the driving force behind the success of the Songs for Sight fund-raising initiative, Brasfield & Gorrie and the Gorrie family have generously supported research, clinical, and outreach efforts in the UAB Department of Ophthalmology and UAB Center for Low Vision Rehabilitation. Brasfield & Gorrie also has been a key contributor to UAB Hospital, supporting the construction of the hospital’s North Pavilion and other key initiatives that have led to enhanced patient care.
“The success of UAB is extremely important to the success of our city,” Jim Gorrie says, “and it is important that we continue to support them any way we can. The Women & Infants Center is a tremendous asset to UAB and our community, and we are proud to have played a small part in its overall success.”
