The University Development Office is charged with coordinating all of the private sector fundraising activities for the institution. In the face of shrinking state support for higher education, UAB relies increasingly on the generosity of its many friends and benefactors as it strives to serve the needs of its community.

Development staff work with alumni, private individuals, businesses, and foundations to secure the financial resources UAB needs to fund its critically important programs and activities. In addition, the University Development Office maintains a campus-wide gift records system to document, acknowledge, and report all charitable contributions. It is also responsible for the stewardship of these gifts once they are received.

The office also provides expertise and assistance within the University to schools, departments, centers, divisions, and programs as they seek support from corporations or philanthropic organizations.
