Class of 2010 Celebrates a Successful Year

Leadership UAB graduated its third class in December after another busy year. Beginning with a welcome reception in February, the 2010 class became more acquainted with UAB through several events throughout the year.

In March, the UAB 101 event introduced the group to UAB’s undergraduate programs and student services. The Community Collaborations luncheon in May gave class members an opportunity to learn about UAB’s partnership with business incubator Innovation Depot to strengthen local businesses. Over the summer, the class enjoyed a reunion with the Leadership UAB classes of 2008 and 2009. In October, the Medical Rotations event introduced members to UAB’s academic medical center, including the School of Medicine, UAB Hospital, and the UAB Health System. In addition to these events, members were invited to tailgates, basketball and football games, and Alys Robinson Stephens Performing Arts Center artistic performances.

The mission of Leadership UAB is to enhance the understanding of its members regarding the vision and mission of the university to foster loyalty and support and develop dedicated ambassadors and volunteers to serve the university. The membership reflects the university’s commitment to diversity and includes a broad range of individuals from various corporate, civic, and volunteer backgrounds. The annual membership class consists of approximately 50 members between the ages of 25 and 40 who represent a cross-section of Birmingham’s vibrant young community.

At the conclusion of their year in the group, members are strongly encouraged to continue their association with UAB through service on one of the university’s many active advisory boards or committees or in any other service and/or leadership capacity that appeals to each member’s particular interests and talents.
