Donors Place Their Bids to Raise Money for UAB Student-Athlete Scholarships

The UAB Athletic Department hosted its seventh annual dinner and live auction event on August 22 to raise funds for Blazer student-athlete scholarships. A reception at Park Lane by Kathy G. preceded dinner and the live auction.

Among the items auctioned by volunteer auctioneer Ken Jackson, president of Dudley C. Jackson Inc., were bronze sculptures from renowned artist Frank Fleming; tickets to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Final Four; Harald Herglotz etched glass; a private dinner for six at Fleming’s Steakhouse and Wine Bar; a weeklong vacation for up to six people at Abaco Island, Bahamas; an original painting by Joey Longoria of Graeme McDowell, 2010 U.S. Open champion and former UAB golfer; vintage wine collections; and a trip for two with the team to the UAB-Tennessee football game.

“The UAB Athletics Auction has been a great success,” says UAB Athletic Director Brian Mackin, “and in part due to the generosity of our loyal supporters, we have raised more than $700,000 for scholarships for our student-athletes. We greatly appreciate the continued support for this event.”
