Department of Art and Art History Hosts Pauline Ireland Visiting Artist

Renowned artist Jane Hammond, who works in a wide range of media, was the 2009 Pauline Ireland Visiting Artist. The UAB Department of Art and Art History presented a lecture by Hammond on October 9, 2009, at the Hulsey Recital Hall, followed by an open exhibition and private reception with Hammond in the UAB Visual Arts Gallery next door. Hammond’s artwork was featured in the Visual Arts Gallery from October 2 to 31.

The Pauline Ireland Visiting Artist Program is funded through the generosity of local arts patron and benefactor Pauline Ireland. It provides the department the opportunity to present retrospective-style exhibitions of works by major contemporary artists.

Hammond’s works are in the permanent collections of galleries and museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, National Gallery of Art, National Museum of Women in the Arts, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Biblioteque Nationale in Paris, Museo de Arte Contemporaneo in Mexico City, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. She has had many solo shows at galleries all over the world.
