Raising Funds for Student-Athlete Scholars

Department of Athletics Hosts Annual Auction

The UAB Athletic Department hosted its eighth annual dinner and live auction event last summer to raise funds for Blazer student-athlete scholarships. A reception preceded dinner and the live auction. Among the items auctioned by announcer Tony Kurre were lawn maintenance for a year, a Las Vegas package, an original Conference USA Champions painting (featuring Aaron Johnson), a Ross Bridge getaway, an Orange Beach vacation, and two pieces of art by Frank Fleming. Among the silent auction items were sterling silver Blazer cuff links, a Blazer kids’ party, and a Frank Fleming sculpture.

“The annual athletics auction continues to be the largest fund-raising event for UAB Athletics due to the generosity of so many alumni and friends of the program,” says Brian Mackin, UAB athletic director. “Those in attendance had a great time interacting with other Blazer fans, all while helping to raise more than $100,000 for student-athlete scholarships.”
