The UTEP program recently began offering a technology professional development series called Techspiration. This monthly seminar series focuses on different instructional technologies and how to incorporate these technologies into classroom instruction. The first workshop focused on Google Docs, QR Codes, and free Alabama web resources. Participants learned about using Google Docs and Google Presentations to encourage student-student and student-teacher collaboration. Participants explored how to use QR codes with mobile devices and learned how to create their own QR codes that link to online audiobooks. The workshop also provided time to explore free Alabama web resources such as the Alabama Virtual Library, APT Plus, and the Encyclopedia of Alabama.
The second workshop focused on Promethean boards and the interactive whiteboard software ActivInspire. Participants learned basic board operation and fundamental tools for creating interactive lessons. Participants were introduced to ActiVotes, the Promethean classroom clickers that can be used for formative and summative assessments.
