English conversation classes are available free of charge for international students, scholars, and staff at UAB as well as for their family members and other language learners from the greater

The English conversation classes take place during UAB’s fall, spring, and summer terms. In fall and spring, classes take place on Tuesdays from 12:30 to 1:45 pm and also from 7:30 to 9:00 pm; in summer, classes take place on Tuesdays from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. Most students attend either during the day or in the evening. Registration takes place at the first class and also throughout the semester. Based on a short oral test, students are placed in levels 1, 2, 3 or 4.

UAB's English conversation classes are offered at no cost to the participants. This free service is available thanks to the wonderful instructors (graduate students and community volunteers) who dedicate their time and talent for helping others to learn English.
