The Peace Corps has a number of opportunities that would appeal to recent graduates. Some assignments involve teaching English as well as working beyond the classroom developing health projects, school gardens, sports teams, theater and music groups, local libraries, computer labs, and other imaginative projects. Like all other Peace Corps assignments, Volunteers receive a living allowance, full medical coverage and other benefits, including future graduate school fellowships. Application deadlines are generally in early Spring. A Peace Corps program called the Masters International Program allows applicants to UAB's MAEd/ESL program to apply to the Peace Corps and pursue their master's degree as MIP students. By pursuing the MAEd/ESL program, MIP students are eligible to be assigned as PCVs in the following areas: secondary school EFL instruction, university English teaching, and English teacher training.

Become a scorer for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The training process and test scoring is done completely online, so scorers can live anywhere in the United States and can work part-time. Jobs are posted as they are available, so check the site frequently if you are interested.

ETS ELL Summer Institute Internship: http://www.ets.org/careers/internships_fellowships
A paid summer internship to help prepare TOEFL, TOEIC or K-12 test materials for ETS in Princeton, New Jersey, 6-8 weeks in July/August. (See the testimonial below by a former UAB MAEd/ESL student.)
The application deadline for each summer is the end of March.
