Interim Dean Lynn Kirkland

As the Interim Dean of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Education, I invite you to partner with our passionate and dedicated community of faculty, staff, and students. Together we will continue to develop premier professionals and advocates in the areas of education, health, and wellness to address disparities in our communities and globally. Our faculty model the change agents that we want our students to be, evidenced by the fact that our faculty and students are deeply embedded and invested in their communities.

The UAB School of Education is unique in our mission. Our varied programming supports students as they strive to become professionals, leaders, and advocates in their respective fields of study. Our research undergirds our work, promoting a level of excellence and equity seen across this dynamic campus. The diversity reflected in our faculty provides a sense of passion and innovation in teaching, scholarship, and service.

The UAB School of Education is centrally located in the state to serve communities in the areas of education and health and wellness. Birmingham is in the midst of a renaissance with city-centered housing and urban development, which is reflected in the UAB campus. UAB is known for its innovation and entrepreneurship and the School of Education is no exception. We offer over 70 programs in varied instructional delivery options. Based on economic development and needs of the landscape of our society, we continually create and adapt program offerings.

Building on the UAB message of “Knowledge that will change your world”, we believe that education, health, and wellness are literally the foundation of that statement. As our campus commemorates the 50th anniversary of the UAB campus and the School of Education during this academic year, we encourage you to connect with us as a student or alumni by visiting the campus and School of Education or following us on social media.

Go Blazers!
