One Year Commitment

Full Time members provide 40 hours per week/1750 hours per year.
Receive $925 monthly Living Allowance/$4,725 Educational Award, Childcare, and Healthcare Benefit if eligible.
Part Time members provide 20 hours per week/925 hours per year.
Receive $462 Monthly Living Allowance/$2,362.50 Educational Award.
AmeriCorps members will provide an array of services including in-class academic and literacy support; leading after-school and out-of-school time programming, recruiting volunteers to engage in Birmingham READS service; and developing and implementing community service projects. Members will receive training in areas such as diversity awareness, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), CPR/First Aid, leadership, citizenship, and career planning.

Highland School After School Care Worker (Counselor)
Position Available: After School Care Worker (Counselor)
We are seeking qualified individuals for our After School Program/Summer Camp. Counselors will be primarily involved in supervising students during outdoor/indoor activities, games, crafts, homework help, field trips and some one-on-one interaction.
Counselors are paid hourly. We have positions available five days a week. Hours are typically 3pm-6pm Monday-Thursday and 2pm-6pm on Fridays, with the possibility of more hours. Summer hours may differ. This is a great job for Education majors! No Weekends!

Teach English in China
All Majors Welcome
Basic Requirements for Teaching English in China:
a) Standard English speakers without any accent;
b) BA /BS degree or higher (Summer Internships available for in-school students);
c) Age: 18-65.
Fall Semester: September – June
Spring Semester: March – December
Summer Semester: July.
Benefits for you:
1. Free Round-trip international airfare paid by your host school if you teach at the same school for one academic year.

Summer Camp Counselors
Time: 4 weeks in July
Location: Several major cities in China
Organizers: US Chinese Culture Center in Columbia, SC, with partner schools in China
Basic Qualifications for Counselors: College students or college graduates, age 18-65. Healthy native English speakers without accent. You should get your own passport.
Benefits: 3,500-4,000 RMB Yuan stipend. Free furnished apartment or hotel room (double occupancy for teachers) or free stay with Chinese host family, and free meals at the camp and with the host family. Free sightseeing/tours in the camp city during your pre-camp training. Free Chinese classes. USCCC books your group round-trip flights to China.
Credit Hours: 3 credit hours for summer internship, independent study, international study, study abroad, politics, governments, Chinese language, education, teaching, social work, Asian study, etc. 3 more credit hours for TESL Training on USC Columbia campus.
TESL Training: 30 hours’ training in Chinese Language, Chinese Culture and Customs, Chinese Educational Systems, Teaching Methods for teaching English as Second Language, and a 30-min teaching trial for TESL Certificate. 3 credit hours.
Camp Students/Campers: Elementary, Middle and High School students from both Chinese and American schools. Teachers and parents are welcome to go with their students as paid Camp Counselors.
