Dr. Roy’s primary research interests are the relationship between aerobic fitness/physical activity and physiological (e.g. obesity, aerobic fitness) and psychological (e.g. body image, cognition) parameters, and barriers and motivators to exercise. She has published more than 30 manuscripts in a variety of referred journals that include Obesity, Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, Perceptual and Motor Skills and Journal of School Health, and serves as a manuscript and book reviewer for a variety of publications. She has presented at more than 60 conferences at local, state, regional, national and international levels and has received grants that support her research. She primarily teaches courses in Exercise Physiology and Applied Kinesiology, and serves as the KIN (Applied Science/Non Teacher Cert.) Program Co-ordinator, Faculty Mentor and Internship Director to the Exercise Science and Fitness Leadership students, Dept. Human Studies Honors Program Director, and Exercise Physiology Graduate Program Director.

She is a native of Nottingham, England, and came over to the USA when she was awarded a tennis scholarship at The University of Alabama (UA). After graduation, she served as a graduate teaching/research assistant at UA and earned Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Human Performance. She is a member of the ACSM, NSCA and AAHPERD and is a certified ACSM Health/Fitness Specialist, NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, AFAA Group Exercise Instructor and USPTR Professional Tennis Coach.
