The UAB School of Education is home to a diverse array of undergraduate and graduate programs in areas such as educator preparation, counselor education, health education, and kinesiology (formerly physical education).  Our programs are accredited by relevant organizations, and are staffed by world-class faculty.

UAB School of Education faculty are at the leading edge of investigating some of today’s most vexing challenges in areas such as exercise science, health disparities, language/literacy development, urban education, and special education.  The School of Education includes several centers that help to support this work: The Center for Educational Accountability and the Center for Urban Education.

Innovation grant focuses on preparing better teachers Thirteen UAB students are participating in a first-of-its-kind grant partnership that aims to prepare pre-service and veteran teachers for a Education student working at computer and document camerasignificant shift in how English language arts will be taught.

For Teachers, By Teachers, a $150,000 grant from the American Federation of Teachers, gives UAB education students the chance to work closely with Jefferson County teachers who are creating an innovative writing curriculum based on the new national College and Career Readiness Standards. “The opportunity to actually teach now has been the biggest blessing,” says UAB senior education major Kenslea Ray. “It has prepared and challenged me in ways that I didn’t even think were possible.”
