Teach ESL to P-12 or adult learners

Enroll in our UAB English as a Second Language (ESL) Program, and you will gain the expertise you need to teach P-12 or adult English language learners. We offer courses in second language acquisition methods, grammar, phonology, ESL instruction through reading and writing, and strategies for teaching math and science to English language learners. In addition, you will have opportunities for hands-on teaching experiences through diverse field experiences and internships.

Want to switch careers to become a teacher?

The Alternative Masters Program (AMP) is designed for individuals who hold an undergraduate degree in a field outside of education who want to become certified teachers. Once you complete the AMP, you will earn an alternative Class A certification in your specific teaching field along with a Master's degree. Learn more details in the AMP Information Packet.
