If you want to mentor other teachers or help transform the curriculum at your P-12 school, then our UAB Teacher Leadership EdS degree program is for you. Through our inquiry-based instruction, you will learn the principles of leadership, curriculum design and implementation, collaborative problem solving, culturally and linguistically responsive instruction, universal design for learning, and data-based decision making.
The program prepares you to serve as professional development facilitators, instructional coaches, lead teachers, department chairs, curriculum coordinators, and program area specialists. If you are interested in pursuing a position as an assistant principal, principal, or superintendent, we offer degrees that lead to Instructional Leadership certification through our Educational Leadership program.
The Teacher Leader program was designed with an executive delivery model. As such, it is accessible to students who live at a distance from UAB or who prefert to take courses in non-traditional delivery formats. Courses are delivered through blended instruction (face-to-face classs alternating with online), totally online, and through professional learning communities.
The program contains six 5-hour modules. Each module consists of a 3-hour content course, a 1-hour research course, and a 1-hour field experience course. You can complete the program in just six semesters to earn Class AA certification in teacher leadership.
