As you’ve likely heard by now, it’s UAB that graduates you but the Alabama State Department of Education that actually issues you a teaching certificate. Because graduation and certification are two different things, the processes involved are also different.
In order to receive your Professional Educator’s certificate from the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE), you must apply and submit paperwork to the Office of Student Services. UAB can not recommend you for teacher certification without receiving completed certification paperwork from you.
The Office of Student Services will verify that you meet all degree and certification requirements after graduation and then submit your paperwork to the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) for the issuance of your Professional Educator’s certificate.
