The School of Engineering and UAB eLearning and Professional Studies are working together to offer you a Master of Engineering degree in Advanced Safety Engineering and Management (ASEM). When you complete the ASEM program and you will be trained to implement Best Practice and “Prevention through Design” concepts in your workplace. You can be able to lead confidently through change and/or crisis and bring your ideas to the engineering design table!
This is the first and only Master of Engineering degree with a safety emphasis offered online!

What Career Opportunities Would I Have?
According to the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) 2009 Salary Survey, any advanced degree can increase a safety professional's salary by $18,000 or more, depending on the field. The Survey also shows that a Master’s degree in the field of Safety Engineering results in a higher average salary ($122,917) than a Master’s degree in the fields of Industrial Engineering ($113,723); Industrial Hygiene ($103,889); and Industrial Safety, Occupational Safety, Safety Management, and Safety Science ($102,684).
Should I Apply?
You should apply if you have at least five years of professional work experience in the safety field. A degree in engineering is not required. You can complete this program in only five semesters.
