The Division of eLearning and Professional Studies is expanding its services to UAB faculty beginning January 1, 2014. It will be providing instructional design and online course development support to faculty who wish to convert existing courses to online delivery and/or develop new online courses as part of online degree programs. Dr. Elizabeth Fisher will be leading this effort as the Division’s inaugural Director of Academic Outreach. She has been nationally recognized for her role in successfully leading the Collatt School of Business (CSOB) to become a model academic unit of online program delivery of the highest quality.

“We are delighted to welcome someone of Dr. Fisher’s enormous expertise, experience and reputation to the Division,” said Dr. Martha Warren Bidez, Executive Director of eLPS. “In short, she will be working to replicate the highly successful CSOB model on a campus-wide basis.” Some schools on campus already employ instructional designers within their schools and may only require “overflow” assistance. Many schools, however, including Engineering, Education, and Dentistry, do not have in-house expertise and they are looking for expert support to develop their online course and program delivery. Dr. Fisher will also be working with Dr. Bidez to grow a robust offering of online professional studies courses to meet the needs of industry and provide new revenue streams for UAB’s academic units.

According to Dr. Fisher, “I am excited and feel very privileged to join the entrepreneurial eLPS team to help capitalize on the online opportunities ahead for the benefit of all UAB students, faculty and staff.”

Faculty to Self-Publish Canvas Courses Beginning in Spring 2016 Term

Beginning in the Spring 2016 Term, Faculty will self-publish their courses, rather than the system automatically publishing all courses on the first day of class.  Please note that once your course is published, your students will be notified when changes are made to published items (example: assignments).
