The Division of eLearning and Professional Studies (eLPS) will lead the rollout and administration of the university’s new learning management system, Canvas by Instructure. According to Provost Lucas, “Blackboard will continue to be supported by the team led by David Yother and Ronan O’Beirne. All aspects of Canvas conversion and future administration will be supported by Dr. Elizabeth Fisher and her team in the Division of eLPS. This way, the faculty have a clear path for assistance and future success with this exciting new LMS.”
The existing Blackboard team will continue to support users of any third-party tools associated with Bb use (e.g. Respondus, Collaborate, Turn-it-in, etc.). As faculty begin teaching courses in Canvas, Dr. Fisher’s team will provide all technical support for Canvas users, including all third-party tools needed for faculty and student success.
Training for both faculty and instructional design/technology staff will begin in January 2014 with two WebEx seminars hosted by Canvas. Next, Canvas personnel will be on the UAB campus for three days of face-to-face training in late January or early February. A new website to support faculty, students and instructional designers in the use of Canvas will go live by February 1st. Specific dates for all training will be announced on the UAB Online website (www.uab.edu/online) before classes begin on January 6th.
