Student Profile: Mostafa Salama

salamaMostafa Salama, Ph.D. student and research assistant in the Vehicle and Robotics Engineering Laboratory (VREL), has had quite a start to 2014. This spring, Salama was recognized as a recipient of UAB International Graduate Student (Doctoral) Academic Excellence Award, the UAB National Alumni Society License to Learn Scholarship, and the UAB Caroline and Charles W. Ireland International Student Scholarship. All this comes after he received the UAB Volker International Scholarship in 2013.

Salama is pursuing a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary engineering while serving as a supervisor of the VREL, where he developed more than 10 lab manuals for Mechanical Systems, Introduction to Mechatronics, and Introduction to LabVIEW courses. In addition, he serves as a teaching assistant in the following courses: Mechanical System Lab, Kinematic and Dynamic of Machines, Vehicle Dynamics, System Modeling and Controls. He is also a session organizer for the upcoming IMECE conference in Railroad and Off-road Systems Dynamics.

Salama is a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the International Society of Terrain Vehicle Systems (ISTVS). He has published six conference papers and reviewed more than 20 technical papers in international journals and conference proceedings. He has participated in the following conferences: American Control Conference, ASME Congress, ASME Dynamic Systems and Control Conference, and ASME International Design Engineering Technical Conference.
