The Society for Design and Process Science presented its highest award to Dr. Edward O. Wilson, a native son of Birmingham Alabama and one of the world's most preeminent scientists and two-time Pulitzer Prize winning author. An advanced copy of his new book “letters to a young scientist” promoting “thinking for understanding” and STEM education is presented to Professor Murat M. Tanik of UAB.
UAB School of Engineering was presented a gift of $100,000 from KBR, a global engineering, construction and services company, at a reception in the UAB Alumni House on Feb. 21, 2013. The donation, spread out over the next five years, is for the Advanced Safety Engineering and Management (ASEM) Master of Engineering program.
UAB students building 1,000-mpg car hope to be first Alabama team to compete in Shell high-mileage competition
10 engineering students at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, all seniors, are building a 1,000-plus mpg car at this very moment. If they successfully assemble a working vehicle in the next two weeks, Team UAB will be the first team from Alabama to participate in the competition.
Alexander replaces Linda Lucas, Ph.D., who served as the school’s dean from 2000-11, until she was named interim provost and then ultimately, in 2012, provost of UAB. Melinda Lalor, Ph.D., had served as interim dean. Alexander will be the sixth dean in the history of the School of Engineering.
