In addition to opportunities within the UAB Honors Academy, Honors programs are offered by all undergraduate degree programs in the School of Engineering:
- Biomedical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Materials Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
The Honors Programs are intended to enrich educational opportunities for talented students in the School of Engineering.
Students who have earned a GPA of at least 3.25 after completion of MA 227 Calculus III or EGR/MA 265
Mathematical Tools for Engineering Problem Solving and receive departmental endorsement are invited to participate in an engineering honors program. Invitations are extended by the Dean’s office in May of each year.
Honors programs require nine credit hours of honors coursework above the 128 hours required for a bachelors degree.
- Students enroll in EGR 301 Research I (one-hour course) no later than the junior year.
- Students enroll in a one-hour departmental seminar which can be taken at any time in their course of study.
- Students complete six hours of credit in honors research
