Dr. Salama is a faculty of the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at UAB. His specialties are in the areas of structural engineering (with emphasis in bridge design, testing, and finite element methods), and construction engineering management. Dr. Salama is a licensed Professional Engineer in the States of New Jersey and Alabama. He has several years of industrial experience in construction management of multi story buildings as well as design of steel and façade structures.

Research Interest and Activities Include

  • Non-destructive evaluation of bridges. His work utilized Bridge Weigh-In-Motion (B-WIM) technology, and was involved the validation of bridge structure design procedures and models of the new AASHTO-LRFD code
  • Structural analysis using Finite Element modeling tools such as ABAQUS and ANSYS
  • Rehabilitation, retrofitting and strengthening of structural members using FRP
