Southeastern Green Roofs

Stormwater runoff has been identified as a major source of pollution in urban and suburban streams, detrimentally impacting the sensitive aquatic ecosystems in these watersheds.  There are several innovative stormwater practices that integrate infiltration and storage to mitigate urban runoff, including the use of enhanced greenroof systems.  It is the objective of ongoing research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) to quantify / optimize the stormwater mitigation potential of vegetated roofs.
