Established in 2002 in the UAB School of Engineering, the Enabling Technology Laboratory houses researchers, developers, artists, and graduate and undergraduate student assistants.  The ETLab researches the application of virtual reality technologies to the problems of communication, visualization, and training.  This research guides development of software for large-scale multi-wall immersive virtual reality systems, for head-mounted virtual and augmented reality systems, as well as for workstations, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones.

Additional research interests and capabilities include advanced medical image processing, 3D image acquisition, and high performance computing. Our research is funded by industry, business, and government—including NASA, DoD, DoE, NSF and NIH.
