SAE

DSC_0706The SAE Collegiate Chapter is an excellent way to develop personal skills, including leadership, delegation, project management, communications, time management, and much more. You'll also have the opportunity to network with other student leaders, faculty, practicing engineers, and industry professionals. Students involved in UAB SAE compete in the SAE Collegiate Design Series, specifically Baja SAE.

Baja SAE consists of three regional competitions that simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Engineering students are tasked to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain and sometimes even water.

In 2010, the UAB SAE team participated in the Clemson, SC and Rochester, NY events.

The UAB SAE team finished 22nd out of 100 entries in the South Carolina event.

The UAB SAE team entered two cars in the Rochester competiton. We finished 30th and 31st out of 89 teams. There were several top 20 finishes for dynamic events for both cars. The finishes were the best that UAB has ever achieved prior to 2010 in every event except cost and endurance. This is only the second time that UAB has participated in the water competition at Baja and only the second time UAB has had 2 car entries at one event.
