The 25th Annual Brent Newman Memorial Egg Drop Contest
Sponsored by the UAB Student Chapter of the
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
More than 550 elementary, middle, and high school students converged on Vulcan Park to participate in the 25th Annual Brent Newman Memorial Egg Drop Contest. The event attempted to inspire mechanical engineering thought and design in the participants, while providing opportunities for UAB engineering students to interact with the community.
Participants were asked to design apparatuses that will protect a raw egg from breaking when dropped from the top of Vulcan (approximately 100 feet). Entries were judged on engineering thought and creativity, mass of the apparatus, and the ease with which the egg is loaded into the apparatus.
