The UAB School of Engineering has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) in Calicut, India. A signing ceremony was held in the administrative offices on the UAB campus Friday, June 12, and included UAB President Carol Garrison, Ph.D., and NITC Director Ginjala R. C. Reddy, Ph.D.
The agreement between UAB and NITC creates a formal linkage between the two institutions and should foster the development of collaborative programs in engineering education and research, said Linda Lucas, Ph.D., dean of the UAB School of Engineering. The relationship is also expected to lead to new chances for overseas learning for students from both schools as they take advantage of new exchange-learning opportunities.
The sharing agreement with India is the latest example of the UAB School of Engineering’s international outreach. Previous agreements and programs have the school working with Misr University for Science and Technology in Cairo, Egypt, and with Engineers Without Borders in South America and Africa.
