Accreditation

Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS)

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate, masters, doctorate, and professional degrees. Click HERE for additional information on UAB accreditation.

Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET

Typically, graduate programs in Engineering are not EAC/ABET accredited. ABET accreditation of the IEM concentration of the Masters of Engineering Program through the EAC would require either (1)  only accepting students from accredited engineering undergraduate degree programs or (2)  requiring students without an accredited engineering undergraduate degree to take extensive baccalaureate-level coursework.

The IEM Master of Engineering Program will not pursue ABET accreditation due to the diverse backgrounds of its students.

Students completing this program are not eligible to take the FE exam in the State of Alabama unless they also have an engineering degree from an ABET accredited program which meets state licensure requirements.
