Robert Collins (Ph.D., Ohio State, 1978) specializes in creative writing (poetry) and American literature. His books include The Inventor Poems (1981), The Glass Blower (1997), Lives We Have Chosen (1998), Greatest Hits (2001), and Occasions of Sin (2005). His poems and essays have appeared in such journals as Ascent, Southern Poetry Review, Prairie Schooner, Hiram Poetry Review, Modern Poetry Studies, Connecticut Review, and Shenandoah. He has received the Ascent Prize for Poetry and two Individual Artists Grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. Lives We Have Chosen won the 1998 Tennessee Chapbook Award. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in creative writing and American literature, including The American Dream and Archetype and Myth. He is the founder and editor of Birmingham Poetry Review.
