Application Information

Applications for graduate study in UAB English are handled by the Graduate School. Although anyone who has completed an undergraduate degree at an accredited institution may register for courses as a non-degree graduate student, applicants seeking the M.A. in English submit a full application. UAB English expects degree-seeking applicants to have an undergraduate degree in English or equivalent preparation; a verbal GRE score of at least 500, with a composite of at least 1000 preferred, or an MAT score of at least 50; a well-composed statement of purpose; and at least three recommendations from persons able to assess the applicant's qualifications for graduate study. Prior to admission or, at the latest, prior to conferral of the M.A. in English, English graduate students must have completed a minimum of 8 hours in a single foreign language or equivalent.
