The BioText consists of an introductory section and the three major content areas described below. To navigate between the various materials collected here, one can always use this "Table of Contents" page, listed as ToC in the navigation bar at the bottom of the page; alternatively, the image map at the upper left corner will direct a browser to the appropriate pages. The image of the Cap of Liberty, by the way, should link back to this table of contents page.
The overall design of the BioText:
Introductory Materials
There are several options here. The Introduction presents a brief look at Hone and provides a quick overview of the content and purposes of the BioText. A more extended and theoretical essay called Discursive Hosts: Hypertext and the Crisis in Literary Biography explains the origins of the BioText and places the project in the genre of literary biography. And there are a few self-explanatory pages as well. The Acknowledgments identifies some of those persons who have had a hand in the BioText; the Statement of Progress is a frequently updated page describing the current state of this unfinished (and unfinishable) project. Also, the search engine may assist readers looking for specific information.
This area offers several interlinked bibliographies of works by, about, or associated with Hone. In addition, the biotext provides descriptions--in some cases, facsimiles and excerpts--of some of the major archival sources and manuscript repositories with Hone-related materials.
As the name suggests, this area of the biotext provides full-text transcriptions of some of Hone's works presented in browser friendly HTML. The collection is rather small at present, but eventually it should provide a substantial selection of Hone's writing.
This area is home to several tools for historical and biographical research. There is, for instance, a chronology of the early years of Hone's life, a detailed (if still fragmentary) biography of the same period, and an index (with excerpts) of Hone correspondence.
Readers can click on the Area headings above for more complete details; alternatively, a more comprehensive Index of the William Hone BioText is available here.
