About Facilities Management

Facilities Management provides the overall administration and management of the areas below. Through its role, Facilities Management ensures the campus remains safe, clean, beautiful and functioning.

Campus Maintenance is responsible for the operation and maintenance of 125 campus buildings, equal to approximately 8 million square feet of classroom, research, and office space. In addition to campus buildings, the department also maintains lights and equipment on more than 1 million square feet of parking decks

Concierge Construction Services provides construction services for small to medium size projects using in-house construction craftsmen throughout the UAB Academic and School of Medicine Campus. Our work is a fee-for-service model, and we provide a firm quote to our customers. The typical size of our projects are $50,000 or less in total project cost.

Hospital Maintenance is responsible for the operation and maintenance of lighting, plumbing, electrical distribution, air conditioning/heating systems, and finishes of all Hospital buildings. Its Dispatching Office Personnel respond to more than 75,000 maintenance calls per year. The department has an extensive equipment preventive maintenance program that is completely computerized with a weekly summary listing any outstanding equipment preventive maintenance tasks. The amount of equipment increases with each additional building added to the Hospital.

Utilities Management is comprised of the Central Utilities and Energy Management departments, and is tasked with ensuring the university is energy efficient and that the Chilled Water and Steam Plants are running smoothly.

Support Services includes the Building Services, Campus Services and Grounds, and Recycling departments. Support Services represents a large portion of the Facilities Division with more than 250 employees, who maintain the grounds and the buildings for UAB’s faculty, staff and students.
