The Academic Small Business Alliance (ASBA) program at UAB began in January 2015 by creating a unique collaboration between the Department of Small Business Inclusion (formerly Supplier Diversity) and the Collat School of Business. The program is an example of when preparation meets opportunity, great things happen.
Now in its second year of operation, the program has seen phenomenal results, providing business students potential internship opportunities with local small businesses. Thanks to exponential success, the program is now expanding. In 2017, the School of Engineering will join the creative partnership. We are very excited to have them onboard.
The Academic Small Business Alliance (ASBA) is making a significant impact on the city of Birmingham. Some students are receiving full time job offers, others are creating alliances with their sponsoring company and several businesses and students are returning each semester. Through the ASBA program, local small and diverse businesses are making major investments into the student internship experience. The ASBA program is just one way UAB is driving diversity enterprise-wide.
“UAB has continued to be a leader in innovation and we are so proud of all of the support this new initiative has received in the city,” said Project Manager Demetria Scott, Department of Small Business Inclusion.
