OHS3Following the retirement of Max Richard, long-term Assistant Vice President for Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), the Facilities Division and Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development have reorganized the department to continue to build on its service to its campus and hospital customers.

The department is unique in its ties to the research units and to the university as a whole. In order to better serve its varying functions, different groups within the department will report to either Dr. Lauretta Gerrity, Senior Associate VP for Research Administration or to Jolene King, Assistant Vice President of Facilities Administration. The split will not require a physical relocation for any of the groups.

The following areas will now report through Elaine Broussard, Executive Director of Research Health & Safety, and up through Dr. Lauretta Gerrity, Senior Associate VP for Research Administration.  This area is called Research Health and Safety.

  • Radiation Safety
  • Laboratory Health & Safety
  • Biosafety
  • Research Safety Committee Administration

The following areas will now report through Randy Pewitt, Executive Director of Emergency Management and Safety. Randy now reports to Assistant Vice President of Facilities Administration, Jolene King.  This area is called Occupational Health and Safety.

  • OHS Administration
  • Industrial Hygiene
  • Environmental Management
  • Laboratory Ventilation
  • IT
  • Hospital Safety
  • Campus Safety
  • Emergency Preparedness & Business Continuity

The Occupational Medicine team will have a dual reporting relationship with Dr. Lauretta Gerrity and Jolene King.

The teams will continue working together and collaborating seamlessly as they have done in the past. While the reporting structure has changed, the daily operation work and integration is not changing.
