DBE Interest Meeting

The Academic Small Business Alliance (ASBA) Program hosted 15 small businesses and entrepreneurs at the Spring Diverse Business Enterprise Interest Meeting on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. Attendees were comprised of healthcare professionals, engineering firms, and general businesses. Each semester, businesses are invited to learn about the ASBA program, how their involvement can grow their business, and the importance of having a UAB student intern. Among those in attendance, approximately half of the attendees signed up to become a DBE partner.

The ASBA program started in Spring 2015 in the Collat School of Business with only nine students and six businesses to develop an interactive experience that engages students’ knowledge in the classroom to apply in a real world situation. The Fall 2017 semester is expected to have 35 students and 30 businesses from the Collat School of Business, School of Health Professions, and School of Engineering. The program’s success is attributed to the strategic selection process for both the students and businesses. For more information, please contact Ms. Demetria P.
