Emeritus Faculty


Eligibility for Emeritus Faculty Appointment (Section 2.8.5 of the Faculty Handbook)

Having 10 or more years with The University of Alabama System

OR

Less than 10 years and having made an "exceptional contribution to UAB or the System

Effective

    • After retirement

    OR

    • Faculty member no longer holds a full time-position

     

    Procedures:

    I. Appointment is initiated by the department

    Submit the following items to Faculty Affairs:

    • Cover memo to include:
      • Justification for appointment
      • Appropriate signatures (dean's office and other departmental approvals where appropriate)

    II. Approvals

    The packet is routed to:

    • Faculty Affairs
    • Office of the President
    • Human Resources
    • Notification is sent to the faculty member
    • Approved by the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees

    III. Privileges

    • Identification card is provided for use in the libraries, campus recreation center, bookstore, and campus dining facilities (fees and charges are applied)
    • Parking pass (annually renewable)
    • Laboratory or office space may be assigned at the discretion of the appropriate official
