Belita A. Brooks Faki (ABD, University of Alabama) is Instructor of Spanish and Italian. In terms of teaching, she has instructed university students in Spanish and Italian language, culture, and linguistics (since 1986 in Spanish and since 1991 in Italian) at universities including Auburn University, the University of Alabama and Samford.

Here at UAB, Faki has co-coordinated multiple sections of SPA 101, 102, and 201, and has taught ITL 101 and 102. Her special interests are in the field of Judicial Interpreting and Translation. In SPA 314, Translation and Interpretation, she incorporates onsite visits to the curriculum so that our future interpreters can better understand how theories, methodologies and practices studies in the classroom directly apply to the skills used and implemented on the job site. Students are also given the chance to speak with professionals who hire and work with professional interpreters and translators.

Faki has helped create a Study Abroad program to Florence, Italy, in conjunction with the History of Art Department and The Business School and has facilitated reciprocity between UAB and G.’d Annuzio University, Chieti-Pescara. She also created and initiated an Italian lecture series. Faki speaks five languages (English, Spanish, Italian, French and Dutch).
