Primary interests include bioinformatics and computational biology (computational modeling of proteins).  He is also interested in data-mining, text-mining and knowledge management.  He has teaching experience in structural proteomics.

The figure shows the results of the first
simulation studies depicting the interaction
of an olfactory receptor and an odor
(octanal).  The simulation results show that
we have traced the movement of the odor
from the initial (blue) position to an exit
(orange) position, prior to the odor's exit
out of the olfactory receptor's binding
region.  Key amino acid residues of the
olfactory receptor that are involved in
odor-binding are also highlighted.

Dr. Chiquito Crasto is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics.  He received his MSC in 1990 from the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai, India.  He received his MS degree from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio in 1995 and his received his PhD degree from the University of New Orleans in 1997.  Dr. Crasto received his post-doctoral training at the Fox Chase Cancer Center, in Philadelphia from 1997-2000.  He joined the faculty as an assistant professor at UAB in 2007.
