Diversity Initiatives

UAB provides a fertile and inclusive community for training students from diverse populations in the biomedical sciences, both through its proactive institution-wide stance on diversity and its position as one of the major research-intensive institutions in the country.

  • UAB named among the top 10 universities nationally for diversity (currently 5th) by The Princeton Review for past three years
  • Fellowship and other programs sponsored by the UAB Vice President for Equity and Diversity to promote diversity at UAB in all sectors
  • Office of Disability Support Services (DSS) makes the UAB campus and programs accessible to all students with learning and other disabilities
  • Research funding received by UAB School of Medicine faculty consistently ranks in the top 20 nationally for NIH support, supporting an array of highly ranked research programs

The above UAB strengths and GBS theme features contribute to a great training environment. Some comments from GBS students from various diversity groups, concerning their interest in GBS themes -
