You might be concerned about your English pronunciation, but you have a place to go for help.

Testimonials from pronunciation graduate students and post docs:

Years ago, I watched the movie “My Fair Lady,” where Prof. Higgins corrected Eliza Doolittle’s pronunciation of the [ei] sound in the short sentence “The rain in Spain stays mainly in the Plain.” At that time, I tried to mimic the sound without realizing my own pronunciation problem.

Lately, I have been taking GRD 714 Individualized English Pronunciation and Accent Training offered by the Professional Development Program of the UAB Graduate School because I realized that my English pronunciation has remained one major constraints of my oral communication. The best thing that happened to me in this class is that I found out the distance between the correct English pronunciation and intonation and the way I pronounce.

Surprisingly, my teacher learned Chinese and a few other languages so that she can identify the origin of my English pronunciation issues and thus offer solutions more efficiently. Who knows, she might know your language, too. In addition, the instructor personally understands the challenges and struggles of learning another language. She uses a state-of-the-art instructional system that helps you improve your English pronunciation so that others can understand clearly.

Another benefit of this class is that in the individualized instruction, the teacher’s attention is solely devoted to me without having to share with others, which is great. This teacher also possesses an unusually keen ear and patience that can help cater to my own unique pronunciation issues without inducing any shame or guilt in me.

Try this class. You will not be disappointed. I also was introduced to this class by my colleague and I am glad I listened to her. You might be concerned about your English pronunciation, but you have a place to go for help.
